Courage to make a difference in the world every day.

Love one another as God loves us.

 Dear Parents

As the school year draws to a close, we also conclude another Roecliffe chapter - a chapter which has seen much change this year, but also exciting steps forward for the school.

We look back on a year of successes including achievements at sporting events such as gymnastics, basketball, football, cricket and the dance festival.

Our older pupils completed their Young Leaders Award and made a significant and positive impact on their local area. Class 4 planned and led their own project which resulted in the reinstatement of the Roecliffe pond. We are proud of the children’s initiative and tenacity – this was not an easy job!

The school has strengthened its link with St Mary’s Church through the Churches Conservation Trust in the past term with visits from each class to understand more about the church’s history and religious prominence in the local area. We welcome the arrival of Rev. Karen Gardiner as the new vicar at St Mary’s in September and look forward to working closely with Rev Gardiner in our developments towards flourishing as a church school.

Roecliffe has also continued to develop its links with local organisations such as Boroughbridge Care Home, Boroughbridge Library and Queen Ethelburga’s. We are very lucky to be able to utilise these experiences and also to make the most of the learning opportunities provided by our talented and supportive parents who offer their time and expertise – lessons in cooking, acting, singing and painting to name but a few!

Following our SIAMS inspection in March, the school has continued to collaborate with other local church schools and to implement actions and advice from the diocese. We will embed our newly formed vision statement ‘Faith, Courage, Love’ throughout next academic year.

As our technology plan progresses over the summer holiday, our children will return to new Smartboards in Classes 1 and 2, new chromebooks for pupils to use and improved wi-fi through an extensive upgrade. Our improved technology will support us to be more connected with the outside world whilst encouraging collaborative learning inside school.

The old ICT suite is currently being redesigned in to an exciting new space called ‘The Hive’ and the pupils are excited to start using this multi-resource room in the autumn term. When the children have been consulted on their design ideas for the Hive, they have come up with some very ‘interesting’ ideas!

We look forward to taking our first steps in creating music and performing for an audience next term as our newly-purchased recorders wait over the summer for our return in September. (Get ready with those ear plugs!)

It has been an incredibly rewarding time thanks to the hard work of our staff, the commitment of our governors, the experiences provided by our wonderful children, and the support and encouragement given by you, our parents and carers. We wish all our leavers - staff, parents and children - all the very best for pastures new.

I would like to thank you for your continued support for the school and to wish you all a very happy and enjoyable summer. We look forward to seeing you all refreshed, relaxed and ready to go again in September!

Mrs Briggs
