Safeguarding

At Roecliffe CE Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We are fully dedicated to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school.

We follow the procedures set out by North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership, North Yorkshire Education services, Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023 document and those detailed in Roecliffe’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

Safeguarding at Roecliffe can be summarised as:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment and keeping them safe
  • Preventing impairment of children’s  health or development and to enter adulthood successfully
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care

Safeguarding involves every member of our school community in some way and we have a strong understanding of the particular circumstances and needs of all pupils, especially the most vulnerable.

Parents/carers should be aware that our school will take any reasonable action to safeguard the welfare of our pupils.  In cases where we believe that a child may be suffering from significant harm, ill treatment or neglect or other forms of harm, our staff have no alternative but to follow the procedures as described in the school’s Safeguarding and Child protection policy.   Designated staff will contact Children’s Social Care to discuss the concerns.

Our aim is to always be honest with parents/carers and liaise with them first prior to approaching other agencies. However, if staff feel that by contacting the parents/carers there is an increased risk of harm to a child, then the school may contact another agency before speaking to parents/carers.

Should you have any concerns regarding the safeguarding of children at Roecliffe CE Primary School, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Lesley Briggs on 01423 322302.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership which enables schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass ensures that there is a simple telephone call or email notification to our school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead, known as the Key Adult. Our school’s Key Adult is Mrs Briggs. The school’s Key Adult  is notified prior to the start of the next school day after an incident where police have attended domestic abuse and children related to either of the adult parties are involved.

Information from the police is shared with our school’s Key Adult (Mrs Briggs) prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given to the child and their family.

Children are negatively impacted by experiencing domestic abuse and without early intervention and support this negative impact can last through a child’s life course.  Domestic abuse can impact upon social, psychological, physical, emotional and behavioural outcomes with an often negative impact upon a child’s academic success. Experiencing domestic abuse has been identified as an Adverse Childhood Experience.

If you wish to know more about Operation Encompass or you wish to discuss this service with Mrs Briggs, please call school on: 01423 322302
