Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Early Years Foundation Stage, laying the foundations for when children begin more formal education. There is an emphasis on learning through active play, creating and thinking critically and playing and exploring. This is planned for as we build on the children’s individual needs and interests relating to the following seven areas of learning:

There are three Prime Areas and these are:
  • Communication and Language

  • Physical development

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

There are four Specific Areas and these are:
  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Creative Designs

Each child’s journey through the Early Years Foundation Stage is recorded in their ‘Profile’ and the 'Key Skills' journals. Parents are encouraged to input into these to share in this journey too, and we regularly send these home for your comments, feedback and additional information. At the end of Reception children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals to see how we can best support them with their transition to Year 1.
