WEEKLY BULLETIN 8th September 2017

Dear Parents,

Welcome to your first Weekly Bulletin of the new school year, we have had such a fantastic week here in school, and hope that the positivity has been reflected at home too. We have all said what an amazing first week it has been, in every possible way, thank you for sending your children to school each day 'ready to learn'. There are quite a few reminders, events and some dates for your diaries, so you may want to grab a cup of tea, we could be a while!

Class 4 Educational Visit - Murton Park - A day in the life of an Anglo-Saxon
Class 4 are visiting Murton Park next week, spending the day learning about life as early settlers, and experiencing first-hand this unique period in history. If you haven't seen the letter, please have a look in your child's book bag, or visit the virtual office where you can download it http://www.roecliffe.n-yorks.sch.uk/parent-info/virtual-office.

School Dinners
A fantastic first week on the new menu for autumn term, please do look out for the little notes we send home if your child hasn't eaten much of their lunch - this is so we can ensure children have all the energy they need for a busy day at school. For new parents - we inform you by way of an A5 leaflet, if your child hasn't eaten their lunch.

After-School and Lunchtime Clubs
All of our clubs start next week, with the exception of French Club which starts on Thursday 28th September. If your child is interested in signing up for a club, they are a great way to enhance their learning, and we have spaces in most clubs if you would like to sign up.

ParentPay
Despite reminders being sent at the end of the school year we still have payments outstanding for class trips, swimming lessons and after school clubs that were all attended last academic year.  Please can parents ensure any outstanding balances for meals, clubs and trips are settled as a matter of urgency. As mentioned in previous bulletins, these contributions are needed in order for us to continue providing these opportunities.

FORCES Coffee Morning
All families and friends are warmly welcomed to our FORCES coffee morning on Monday 11th September. Join us for coffee and cake, straight after drop-off 9.00-10.00am. It will be a great way to say hello, meet parents from your child's class, and maybe have a chat about ideas for fundraising for the year ahead.

Healthy Tuck Shop
From Monday, Year 6 will be running their healthy tuck shop, every morning playtime 10.30-10.45am. Delicious and different, fresh, locally sourced produce each day. 50p per day (cash only, no Parentpay or IOUs). As of Monday 11th September, only fruit and vegetables are allowed as snacks at morning break. Thank you for supporting our campaign for healthier eating at Roecliffe.

Parent Helpers - Readers
If any of our wonderful parent (or grandparent!) community have an hour or two to spare each week, and would like to come into school to listen to children read, we would be extremely grateful. We like to listen to children reading as much as possible, ideally every day. Plus changing reading books can also take so much time, so we would be extremely grateful for any volunteers . Please either catch your child's class teacher or drop us an email in the office. Thank you in advance.

Contact books, homework grids, timetables and welcome letters...
You will find all of the above in your child's book bag this evening! Please could everyone read the home-school Agreement, in the front of the contact books, this is the basis for a successful partnership between school and home. Please could you sign this; parents, children and teachers, as this underpins all we do in school to enable your children to love learning. Please also not that we have introduced the 'Roecliffe Merits' system this year, to further enhance the positive approach we have in school, children will be awarded a merit sticker for exceptional effort, progress, or an outstanding achievement. If your child is awarded a merit sticker, ask them what they did, and say a huge well done - we're very proud of them too.

Have a lovely weekend, enjoy the last of the summer sunshine, we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday.
