23th February 2018
Dear Parents and Carers,
With March just around the corner, lighter mornings and evenings, crisp air, crocus' and snowdrops, and the occasional sunny day, the first signs of spring are all around us.
This morning we had the most wonderful collective worship from Class 3 pupils, they talked about independence and the ways in which they are developing their independence; everything from already making plans for running their own business to being inspired by those who have embraced independence from all over the world - from Simone Biles, Nick Vujicic, Roger Federer, and in our own families too, including grandads, mums and friends. We also had some very special visitors from Brighterkind Care Home, showing us how we can continue to be independent as we grow older, respecting everyone around us. It was wonderful, and with so many families and friends joining us, it was one of those moments that made me stop, think, and be grateful for the wonderful school community we have here at Roecliffe.
Book Week - Next Week!
A reminder of our fun-filled Book Week next week, to support World Book Day, and to seize the opportunity to embrace that love of reading we want to instil in every child at Roecliffe.
Monday - STOP AND READ! Please ensure the children bring a favourite book into school, ready to listen out for the bell!
Tuesday - FAVOURITE SPOTS! Please take a photo of your children reading, and either print it and send it into school, or email it in and we'll print it out.
Wednesday - AT THE MOVIES Books into movies! All the children need to do is bring in a DVD case to create a film cover for their favourite read!
Thursday - BOOK BOATS AND CHARACTER DAY Children (and staff!!) are asked to come dressed as a character from a book they enjoy. We are also taking the WHOLE SCHOOL to White Rose Book Cafe in Thirsk, with a budget of £5, plus their book token, to choose a book to bring back to school to re-stock, and re-generate our school library.
Friday... THE GREAT BOOK BAKE-OFF! Children, parents and staff are invited to bring an entry to the Book-Bake-Off, this could be a whole cake, a muffin, a decorated biscuit - again, as much or as little detail as you wish. There will be a prize for best bakes (in terms of decoration and taste) from each class! We have invited a very special guest to judge the bake-off... Nick Hancock and Will Smith are coming to judge, and have been warned they need to arrive hungry! Aprons at the ready.
Parents and families are invited to join us at 3.00pm on Friday, for a Book Week celebration, seeing the artwork they have produced, and the books they have read, and the projects we have enjoyed over the course of the week. It would be lovely if you are able to join us!
Thank you F.O.R.C.E.S.
Thank you to FORCES who have very kindly agreed to support the Book Week, through the generous promise of £5 per child to invest in rejuvenating our school library stocks. This is possible because of the fantastic fundraising campaigns the FORCES team organise for the school, and will have an immediate impact on the children's motivation to read new books - it is very much appreciated.
Sports at Roecliffe
We have a new range of sports taking place this half term, including archery! Following training from the Minster Bowmen (Thirsk) before half term. each class has had their first archery session this week, and they are loving it! Also, good luck to the Year 5/6 netball teams in today's competition. And a HUGE well done to the Year 3/4 gymnastics team who were presented with their bronze medals for the team gymnastics event. We also take 4 children through to the individual finals next week - well done Lydia, Madison A, Holly and Alice!

We have spaces available at our Monday Get Active Club for children in Years 1, 2 & 3. Run by Total Sports and funded by the school’s Sports Premium there is no charge for this club and children are encouraged to be active through games, sports and team games.
